Alpha lipoic acid is a naturally occurring compound that functions as a cofactor in mitochondrial energy metabolism and as a potent antioxidant. Unlike most antioxidants, it is both fat- and water-soluble, allowing it to work in virtually all tissues. It also regenerates vitamins C and E and glutathione.
